Interview With An Art Buyer

We recently put up an article about why Kenyans do not buy art. One of the respondents pointed us towards a fresh crop of art buyers. We had the honor of having a chat with one of them.

Meet Ondrej Frybort.

He started off by clarifying that he isn’t an art collector A few months ago, he wasn’t even an art buyer. He was just an art enthusiast. He visited galleries like Kuona Trust, Shifteye gallery and the recently opened Cheche Gallery at the Kenya Cultural Centre where he bought his very first painting from James Njoroge, an upcoming artist who he says, holds a lot of promise.

His first acquisition Kilio 1, a collage, cost him Ksh. 50,000.

This is not the last of Ondrej’s buys, he hopes to collect more art in the future.

So, again we ask, who else is buying art out there?
