Top 5 Bookshops in Nairobi
Buying a book is an investment. You first have to find an engaging book, which is a task in itself, and then find time out of your busy work schedule to read that 650-page hard cover novel front to back. Hopefully, you’ll have picked a good book and not realised the passing of time until you’re done. UP Magazine brings to you a list of the top five bookshops in Nairobi.
- The Bookstop- Located on the third floor of Yaya Centre on Arwings Kodhek road, Hurlingham, this bookstore offers a wide range of genres from gardening to romantic novels. They also sell second hand books at cheaper prices for those who want to spare some cash.
- Chania Bookshop- This bookshop is on Moi Avenue. Its location, which is right in the CBD, makes it easier for book readers who work in town to stop by after work.
- Text Book Centre in Sarit Centre- Although Text book centre has many branches; the one in Sarit centre is probably the biggest so you’d be guaranteed a large number of options to chose from.
- The Souk- Mostly known for its collection of art and accessories, the Souk, based in Karen is also home to a bookshop café where you can enjoy your reading along with a hot cup of coffee. Check it out anytime during the week except Sunday’s and public holidays. For more information go to visit their site here.
- E-Kitabu- If you still can’t get the time to visit a bookstore. Kwani Trust has a website where you can buy books by different Kenyan authors from Binyavanga Wainaina to Enock Ondego.

Book Stop is it! A lot of best sellers actually sell pretty fast. Hadn’t heard of Souk, but will definitely check it out.
