Nairobi’s Live Traffic Cameras offer a peek into traffic habits
Ever wondered where the cameras on our roads are placed and what traffic looks like at any time of day? You can readily access what’s happening on our roads via Access Kenya’s website. The live traffic cameras were launched by Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero during the Kenya@50 celebrations last year. The CCTV cameras are expected to ensure the strict observance of traffic laws and that anyone who breaks any of the laws is held accountable.
“Our CCTV system captures the photograph. That is why if you jump the lights, there is a flash light that comes on and that enables the cameras to capture your face properly. We will get the vehicle and the camera will indicate the time,” commented the Nairobi City County Executive Committee member in charge of Roads, Public works and Transport Evans Ondieki.
Plans are also in place to have building owners install CCTV cameras that will be linked with the city’s surveillance. The committee also plans to decongest Nairobi by ensuring that people don’t dump vehicles in Nairobi resulting in fewer parking spaces available.
