About UP Africa / Ubuntu Press Africa is RE-born on the back of a new conscious movement springing from Nairobi that calls for food, housing, financial and environmental security and general health and wellness for all Africans.
UP by any Other Name is Still, UP
Longstanding brand, Nairobi's 'Urban Perspective' magazine, UP Nairobi, partners with Ubuntu Africa Trust to launch a ‘conscious content’ platform, called “Africa's Ubuntu Press: UP Africa”
On 7 August 2019, The UP Nairobi brand became UP Africa to complete a re-branding process that will see a name change to Ubuntu Press Africa.
While UP will always remain a champion of arts and culture and general muckraking activism, it is also spreading its wings journalistically to include investigative approaches to topics like food, housing, social development, economics and the environment. In a way, we’re growing up and getting a bit more serious about the mission.
This initiative began in early 2019 as part of an overall ‘conscious lifestyle’ start-up enterprise involving a community of inter-related companies: Ubuntu Africa Trust, Afridukas and Eco2. To read more about these industry-disrupter businesses, land on www.afridukas.com
Started in 2010, UP Nairobi created it’s own disruption through a monthly publication, website, social media and events platform that helped pioneer new forms of urban journalism and cultural activism in Nairobi.
It closed its print and event business down in 2016 in order to regroup and strategise a new way to build and operate an independent media voice in Kenya.
That day has come.
While UP will always remain a champion of arts and culture activism, it is also spreading its wings journalistically to include investigative approaches to topics like food, housing, social development, economics and the environment. In a way, we’re growing up and getting a bit more serious about the mission.
Today, we see systems that are broken and life out of balance between people and planet. Through storytelling, we hope to do our part to raise awareness and inspire action towards these critical topics through the eyes and ears of Africa's cultural centers.
But it’s not all without UP’s edgy voice and penchant for a lot of fun and games and bringing our event platform back to life. While our mission has become more focused, our attitude is still all about breaking things and having fun while we do it.
Welcome to the new UP, UP Africa - Africa's Ubuntu Press and the new conscious trade platform of Kenya. #BeLocal!
