How to Make Sizzling Cola Chicken
There’s something particularly delicious about crispy, succulent chicken wings especially those with a saucy, sweet smother as the Chinese have perfected it. The meaty parts of it are just but a tip of the iceberg.
Now I’m going to show you how to make my personal favorite, Cola Chicken – an Asian oriental dish served straight out the kitchen. Traditionally, Coca-Cola is the beverage of choice (and it’s also what I used in this case), but you can use any other particular cola of choice, even Pepsi will do. Heck, even root beer does the job, if that’s more your thing. Just make sure not to use diet soda. You need good some old fashioned tooth-rotting sugar to make the magic happen.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 can Cola®
2 medium Onions; chopped
2 cloves Garlic; minced
2-3 lbs. Chicken Wings
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
Salt and Pepper to taste
chopped chives and black sesame seeds for garnish
a teaspoon of rice wine
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large casserole dish, mix the brown sugar, Coca-Cola®, onions, garlic, soy sauce, chives, sesame seeds, salt and pepper together.
2. Place chicken wings in sauce mixture.
3.Heat oil in a wok or a large heavy bottomed skillet set over medium-heat.
Add the chicken wings and cook for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the skin is crisp and browned. Add the cola, soy sauce, chives and the rice wine into the pan, and bring to a simmer. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce reduces down to a thick glaze, turning the wings occasionally to make sure they cook evenly.
Transfer the finished wings to a serving platter and garnish with a sprinkling of green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately, with lots of napkins to wipe up afterwards.
Delicious served with rice (optional).
