Pembroke Foundation Family Triathlon and RMA Ride&Drive

It often gets dull and boring attending the same old athletics events and challenges with just the basics. Running running and more running. The Pembroke Foundation Family Triathlon which took place at Pembroke was the complete opposite of that. Like all classic triathlons they combined three sports, swimming, cycling and running in that order that delivered a challenge to athletes of all ages. Yes all ages, there was even a U-11 and U13 category.

Before the race kicked off, the event sponsor Jaguar, provided participants with goodie bags of branded merchandise; t-shirts, hats for the eventual heat and the most integral part of any racers kit, a water bottle. They started off at about 7am with the swimming bit of the race and anyone who has been in the area this time knows that walking through the morning chill, leave alone swimming, is challenge enough. The main challenge for the cycling section and the following racing leg was undoubtedly the high altitude which participants surmounted with not much difficulty in order to complete.

Meanwhile for those not athletically inclined but more into a different kind of thrill, RMA Kenya together with the Land Rover Experience South Africa Team organized an uber exciting Ride & Drive. They created a challenging course for drivers keen to push vehicles such as the Jaguar XF, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Evoque, Vogue and Freelander to their limits. The sleek and beautiful Jaguar XJ was on display throughout the weekend and drew admiring looks from crowds.
