UP Event Review: Spectre’s Spectacular Premiere at IMAX Kenya

“For the first time this year, Nairobi is on time for a movie premiere,” noted IMAX Kenya General Manager, Pancy Maina.

Releasing movies on a Friday, at the beginning of the weekend, seems to be a move in the right direction that is if the crowd at Mama Ngina IMAX Theatres last Friday evening was anything to go by!

It seemed like all of Nairobi’s film buffs were there. With an eagerly anticipated opening in the US on 6 November (same as Nairobi), Sony hopes the new film, starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz and Monica Bellucci, will match 007’s most recent installment, Skyfall.

 

Hosted by Public Image guru, Derek Bbanga, the premiere attracted corporate backing from Airtel Kenya, The Famous Grouse and Macallan Whisky. The dazzling premiere was studded by media and the who’s who of Nairobi’s social scene, not forgetting die-hard fans of James Bond—both old and the young at heart.

 

It was a black tie red carpet event and those who attended put on a show and dressed the part. In between the drinks, courtesy of Famous Grouse’s open bar, the invited guests were also treated to give-away goodies and a mouthwatering cake in honour of the movie premiere.
