PERSPECTIVE - A Video Art Exhibition by Just A Band

Just A Band is back with their third video art installation - Perspective. This new project is focused on stories told through the first person narrative. This narrative device places the audience in the minds and emotions of a set of characters dealing with situations both real and surreal.

This For That: An Exhibition By Michael Musyoka and David Thuku
The Art Space Kenya
Opening this Thursday, This For That takes an intense but anecdotal view on today’s society. The exhibition explores the internal triggers that lead people to make bad choices. It looks at the ills of society and asks if we are part of allowing those ills to thrive.
Michael Musyoka is a Kenyan contemporary painter and currently an artist at Brush Tu Art Studio. He cites examples from his own life where his morality has been challenged and uses these stories to identify with the audience.
With paper as a medium, David Thuku uses the sgraffito process - scratching to reveal, using plain black paper as a starting point and cutting into the layers colored paper to reveal each image. He classifies society into four segments of action and non-action and asks what stage we are in as individuals.

The Nairobi Performance Series - March Edition

The Nairobi Performance Series is a co-production platform that aims to support new productions with a cross-disciplinary working approach. This approach will be enhanced this year by ways of dedicating every edition to specific genre. The series will be held three times a year, each edition producing new works, which is inspired by intensive processes initiated by cross-genre meetings
The March edition will feature choreographers and DJs/producers. The series provides an opportunity for performers, choreographers and creators to develop ideas, build on their skills and collective experiences to find new working models/approaches.

Re-imagined: A Magical Day of Storytelling

Nairobi’s finest storytellers will be performing at the Re-Imagined Festival from 11am – 6pm on Saturday March 19th at Kwani.
Aside from the performances, there will be reading nooks for the little ones; workshops for teens and adults; an exhibition of illustrations; a charity auction and much more!
In the evening, from 7pm, join Sitawa Namwalie, Mumbi Kaigwa, Maimouna Jallow, Patricia Kihoro and Raya Wambui as they reinterpret five fantastic novels for the stage.
The event aims to recapture people’s minds with traditional African storytelling and to encourage a culture of reading amongst the youth. It is also a celebration of women; this year’s theme for World Storytelling Day is Strong Women.
