Artist of the Week: Shukid King

Gods Speed is Shukid’s 4th solo project. A 7 track EP with two international collaborations (Ghana & Nigeria) as Shukid attempts to expose his music to the world over.

GodsSpeed featuring Delasi is the first track of this 7 tracked Ep. The Ep is produced by ID37 Music and GodsSpeed speaks about allowing God to take charge. Starting off with the Swahili saying, Haraka haraka, haina Baraka na mwenda pole hajikwai, meaning that hurry hurry has no blessing and that he who takes time on his path does not end up making mistakes.

The artist, Shukid King

The artist goes all punches on this rapping in English probably to gain a wider market.

Greatful is the second track that features Kevin Grands. Purely in English, the song is about dreams and being grateful to life. He urges listeners to see the beauty in the struggle.

The talent of Shukid burst from the tunes on this project. One day, another tune which he collaborates with Jinx and Ace The Don, has a great beat and the baseline is deep rooted hip hop. The third track on the EP, One day is that track that Shukid tells of his dream to reach the top.

Jungle is the next track featuring Fecko. Choosing to come back to the sheng flow mixing with English, Jungle tells about a Nairobi’s rapper call of survival like Rambo in the jungle. This song features Fecko from Nigeria, Lagos.

Round of Applause is the track featuring Shatzy K. The song speaks about people who hate it when doors open for others.

You had me featuring Bua is a mother’s track. It is an open letter from the artists to their mothers and thanking their mothers from the lessons they have learnt over the years.

King Shyt is the final track off the EP. Well recorded and mastered, the heavy hip hop beats make it such a great invite from the start. This is his call to attain recognition and proves why English Hip Hop in Nairobi is a tough sell.

Listening to the EP, one feels like the choruses in some singles were a let down to the project. There is although, a great improvement in terms of production from his earlier projects and that is a plus.
