Dj Slim B; From South Africa On Fire.
imagine the scene; You step in a club and find the crowd wild and sweaty, gyrating to kwaito or some Kenyan hit song. You spot a girl possessed by the music. In her mind, her body is the decks and clothes have lost all meaning to her. The Dj causing this rise in temperature could be Dj Slim B aka Bruno Ruzage, of Homeboys Radio. He has been on the Homeboys late night show for the last few months, getting listeners ready for the adventures of the night.
As his name, this dread-locked Dj with a smile for days is tall and, well, slim. He is an easy talker fluent in various languages including the language of seduction(His words).
In the streets of Soweto, he and his buddy Junior, lagged around a bag with dj equipment from club to pub to bar to -you get where we’re going with this-, looking for gigs.
“These things don’t come easy. We hustled! This was back in 2010 when I was studying Broadcasting and Advertising at Boston Media House in Johannesburg. Don’t let people go around thinking I didn’t go to school. We had some breakthroughs here and there but the best one had to be at Club Zar in Sandton, Jo’burg.”
He has been back in the country a year now and has already made some significant leaps as a radio Dj. He was welcomed to Venus Fm not so long after he got back into the country. He was the man behind the tunes on the Friday morning show, Gentlman’s Friday that was voted 8th most listened to show last year. The show was hosted by Kadzo and Mwikali. He was also on the Thursday Hiphop Hour with Dj Bymistake.
“Turn’t music is my style, the one where no one leaves the dance floor, know wha’ I mean? In the club, anything goes, so whatever they react to, I go with it. At a show though, I play Hiphop, South African house and Kenyan music- A boy must represent! There are so many Dj’s at a show, I just play me.”
Dj Slim B hopes to host a popular radio show with his dog Marley, sometime in his future. Well, we at UP wish him all the best.
