‘From the Vault: The Metamorphosis of Colour’ by George Omesa

Art communicates to each of us differently; whether it’s in the colour, in the texture or the feeling evoked by a piece of art, the reaction is almost instantaneous but rarely complete. George Omesa’s paintings exhibited at his ‘From the Vault’ exhibition at Kuona Trust ending on June 15th have an instant effect with bold colours and sharp images rising from the canvas. The effect however, is not complete, one look isn’t enough and the more one observes the more one sees.

Easily characterised as folk/naive art, Omesa’s work relates to all life’s experiences; from family, to work, to traffic, and confusion, to cattle and serenity. Omesa draws inspiration from our daily life encounters capturing it through what seems like the vivid eyes of a child or a well-adjusted adult. This juxtaposed with the mayhem of everyday life leaves a warm feeling in the gut tinged with nostalgia for youthful innocence.
