Ghanaian Visual Artist Reimagines World Celebrities
Have you ever imagined Beyonce draped in Maasai jewelry, Rihanna in a Zulu hat or Nicki Minaj in Kente print from head to toe? These are not looks that were recently displayed on the red carpet but rather, created by a talented Ghanaian artist, Dennis Owusu-Ansah.
After a real-life experience, whereby he witnessed his friend being teased by a group of men because he had won kente cloth to church, he was motivated to enlighten the world about different cultures through art. Step by step, he uses a sketching app, an ipad and a stylus to work his magic.
So why did he pick the famous faces? He says in an interview with okayafrica that the celebrities have a wide fan base and hence will attract a wide audience.
He definitely did not go wrong with this idea as within a short period, his images have broken the internet, leaving his Instagram followers thirsty for more. Dennis says the most popular suggestions include Michael Jackson and Kevin Hart.
If you are hoping to see POTUS in Egyptian attire or Samuel L Jackson in a Yoruba hat, then following Owusu-Ansah on Instagram would be the best decision you made this year!
