Tosh Gitonga, Film Director/Producer
The prestigious and widely read publication, The New Yorker, listed 31-year-old Tosh Gitonga as the third most fascinating African of 2012. He is well known for last year’s highly-lauded Kenyan movie “Nairobi Half Life” (NHL) that happens to be Kenya’s second official Oscar entry to date. What he knows about movie making was learned by experience as he studied Marketing. Speaking on his directing style, the chilled-out director says, “I like to be as authentic as possible, I don’t want my films to be detached from reality.”

Tosh has also worked on other successful films such as “The First Grader” (2010) as a First Assistant Director and on “All That Way for Love” (2011) as an Assistant Director. The Filmmaker has won many awards among them Best African Director: First Feature at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles (2012). Another notable win was at the Nashville Film Festival in 2013. People normally ask me what i see in Kenyan films but i tell them that they are the best and they keep watching this space.
