Where Nairobi Residents Weekend.

Nairobi residents are a varied and unique lot especially with regard to how they spend their weekends. Weekend plans range from idyllic afternoons in the countryside to adrenaline-fuelled adventures. UP asked various Nairobi residents what their ideal weekends were like

 

Rakesh, 31, Accountant

My weekends are pretty different a lot of the time but probably the best way I spend mine often is to go over to my folks house in Nakuru for lunch to catch up with them and see how they’re doing. My mum always makes this amazing dish called Paneer Makhani (cottage cheese in gravy) that I can never seem to get enough of. When I’m done with lunch I go over to the Nakuru Athletics club to play cricket with my friends, still the best bowler among the group.

I spend my weekends looking for great places to take shots. I’m mostly a scenic photographer so I look for places like Lukenya near Daystar where I can get a shot of the sunset or sunrise over the hills or go somewhere like Karura forest where I can capture the majestic beauty of the lighting filtering down through the forest canopy. I usually spend the night over because night shots are sometimes the best if you can get your focus just right.

 

Grayson, 28, App Designer

I love speed, adventure and putting myself through new challenges. Most people would look at a cliff and think “wow that’s high” I look at a cliff and think “I wonder when I can scale it.” Some weekends I go to Climb BlueSky in High ridge to use their indoor climbing wall but others we go to Sagana for bungee jumping and white water rafting. Though sometimes I just get on my bike pick a destination like Nakuru or Sultan Hamud with nice open highways and just ride.

 

Gakenia, 23, Student

Where I weekend? My friends and I plan all our weekends weeks in advance so there’s no chance of anything going wrong. Especially if we’re going out of town to party like to Machakos for rugby last month, Nakuru for the wheelbarrow race this month or to Migaa in Kiambu next month for the Hakuna Matata Festival. Sometimes you just need to get away from the city and what better reason than to party?
