Pre-Event Artist Profile: Shishani for Tamasha Pre-Fest Event
Shishani is talented singer-songwriter with Belgian/Namibian roots. The name Shishani means ‘crown’ in Oshiwambo.
Shishani’s style is influenced by black American music traditions, giving her a truly unique sound. Her music is comforting and has a thread of strong social consciousness running through it.
Her song “Minority” garnered two nominations at the Namibian Annual Music Awards.
During her career, Shishani has performed in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Malawi, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa, and her twin homes, Belgium and Namibia and this weekend she plays at the Tamasha Pre-Fest Event on Saturday at The Junipers Kitchen.
Asked why she was part of Tamasha Festival, this is what the soulful songstress had to say:
“I am a Strong Believer in actions. There is no way to prosper if we
don’t prosper together, that’s why I’m a part of Tamasha. I believe in
the power of collaboration and communal growth, and the fact that they
are creating this platform is absolutely necessary and beautiful.”
Shishani has also spearheaded various arts initiatives in Namibia focusing on social upliftment.
