The Koroga Festival: Baaba Maal

Freshlyground ended their amazing 90-minute set at the first edition of Koroga Fest with a photo of their Nairobi fans rushing towards the stage. “Nairobi you guys are great! We’re going to take a picture of you for our Facebook!”, the lead vocalist of Zolani Mahola, Freshlyground shouted.

This time Capital FM brings to Koroga the magnificent Baaba Maal the Malian maestro to showcase in Nairobi. Baaba Maal is a Senegalese singer and guitarist born in Podor, by the Senegal River. He devoted himself to learning music from his mother and from his school headmaster. Baaba is known as the foremost promoter of the traditions of the Pulaar speaking peoples from the Senegal River in Futa Tooro, the ancient Senegalese kingdom.

This edition of the Koroga festival features the following amazing Kenyan musicians set to perform alongside the Senegalese singer: Aaron Rimbui, Eric Wainaina, Chris Adwar and The Villagers Band at the Arboretum Grounds.

The Koroga Festival is a bi-monthly music and arts festival set to captivate festival goers, and is aptly named after the Swahili word meaning “mix.” The aim is to reflect Kenya’s brilliant and diverse local talent, whilst also attracting leading artists from all over the world through music, fashion, food and arts.

If you missed the first one, and have no better plans for Father’s Day, then you need to be in the mix for this one with all your people and with everyone bringing their Dad… Koroga your lunch as you enjoy a once in a lifetime performance.

Koroga is happening on Sunday June 15th, at the Arboretum Gardens from noon.

Entrance is KES 1,500 Advance and KES 2,000 at the gate.Get your tickets @ ticketsasa.com
