Top 5 Men in Kenyan Fashion
The Designer: Kaveke
Kaveke has been in the fashion pool for as long as we can remember. Known for his African inspired themes in his designs, he has launched several collections that have put him on the map of success. These include London Fashion Week, where he was the first Kenyan designer to showcase his work on the prestigious platform. He has also been creative enough to dress both men and women. His creations have made it to the most prestigious runways across the globe including the Sarajevo Fashion Week in Bosnia, Hub of Africa in Ethiopia, Swahili Fashion Week in Tanzania, M Net Face of Africa in Nigeria and the Big Brother Africa House in South Africa.
The Stylist: Franklin Saiyalel, the Kenyan Stylista
When talking about male stylists in Kenya who are exclusively tailoring menswear, Franklin Saiyalel is the clear frontrunner. A web search for the top African or Kenyan fashion bloggers will yield results with The Kenyan Stylista topping the list. With nearly 5000 followers on Twitter, and 4000 on Instagram, he’s rapidly making headway in the industry - with a growing number of fans daily. He says he focuses on people he considers to be trendsetters, visionaries and forward thinkers who are shaping the world around them.
The Photographer: Emmanuel Jambo
Emmanuel Jambo is one of a crop of new fashion photographers who are taking fashion photography and portraiture in Kenya to new heights. Famously known as the man behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential portrait, his expertise range across the board - from photography to cinematography, as well as gracing the backdrops of London Fashion Week. He also won the category of the most established fashion photographer of the year 2014 on the Kenyan Fashion Awards that year. Follow him on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter
The Model:Brian Onyango
Brian Onyango is the new boy on the books joining the list of the male models working consistently in Nairobo. He was nominated for the category of upcoming male model of the year at the Jumia Glamour Awards and took home the award this past Saturday. I can’t talk much about his septum look though but we wish him the best in the modelling industry.
The Personality: Nick Mutuma
I don’t remember ever seeing Nick Mutuma dressed down. Be it on the streets, television or even any fashion event. I am not saying this because his face has been bombarding billboards of late. However, he probably has the potential of making the worst look great: No debate about that.

Susan says:
On this list, Emmanuel Jambo and Kaveke stand out. Nick Mutuma though well known does nothing for me, he has a chickish look and pretentiousness that I just can’t get with. I’d like to see more male designers and less of “personalities”. Give credit to the people who actually make a living and breathing fashion and not just Nivea lotion.
