UP and Coming: Introducing Njeri Music

It takes an experimenting rapper to go all the way and do a free style mix of Kikuyu (mother tongue), Swahili and English,not one to shy away from a challenge, Njeri’s first song Nduta does just that.

A musician, singer and rapper, this beauty seems to have her ring humbly settled for her first love, Music. “Music is my life. Like, I am in the studio six days a week. I listen to music all the time. At the studio, I am always trying to come up with new stuff, recording news things and yeah, expect a lot from me.”

Taking the same route as the Kenyan Norwegian female rapper, STL, Njeri seems determined to bring back music to the roots, her roots. “As a musician, I believe that we should embrace our roots. That’s the why I have done this song mostly in my mother tongue, Kikuyu.”

Njeri is fast catching up with the rising female fatales in the music industry, with her influence drawn from artists she grew up listening to including Nazizi, the late Lady S, E-sir, Nonini and STL,

With the gun shot, Njeri chooses to run a different race from gun to tape. “I have much respect for all the femcees in the game. So big up Xtatic, Femi One, Wangechi, STL, Muthoni the Drummer Queen, Sosuun… yeah, I love what they do, I love their style. I look up to them. Big up guys.”

With such a commanding voice and not one to quickly forget where she came from, she pays tribute to her producer, Ace on the beat. With the path she has chosen, we here at UP have a feeling she is on the right track, and she will just be fine.
