UP Film: Local Production, #TheUnprotected, Set To Premiere In Cinemas This September

Albert O. Nyakundi, an upcoming filmmaker, is the man behind The Unprotected, which is set to debut at Fox Theatres, Sarit Center on the 26th of September, 2015 where it will run for a week. Albert Nyakundi is not a newcomer to the industry; he has seven years of experience in both television and film. He is also part owner of 3DAfrika Media, which specializes in film and TV production, music videos, motion graphics, EFX, 3D animation and turnkey broadcast systems. This is his second film in the director’s seat, after “Mos Kode”, a film in Dholuo.

The Unprotected, partly inspired by true events, tells the story of Arya (Nameeta Jamal) an overqualified journalist at a leading newspaper, who is unhappy with the quality of the stories assigned to her. A chance meeting with underage sex worker, Muthoni(played by Ashley Kareez) leads her to the story she has always wanted. However Arya may have got more than what she had bargained for, and ends up face to face with vicious cartels that extend all the way to the corridors of power. The movie promises to be gritty and hard hitting, as it brings to light issues that are normally swept under the rug, such as child trafficking, underage prostitution and drug trafficking.

Nameeta Jamal first appeared on our screens in the early 2000’s in the television series Better Days. A graduate of the Vancouver Film School where she studied performing arts, Nameeta has appeared in several plays both locally (at Phoenix Players and at the Kenyan National Theatre) and internationally. She has also featured in the Dubai installation of the 48 Hour Film Festival, where she was the runner up in the Best Actress category. This will be her first appearance in a full length feature film.

Film veteran Chris Kamau (Sense 8) also features in this film as well as guest appearances from NTV’s journalist Larry Madowo and Ukoo Flani member Sharama. The film will run at Fox Theatres, Sarit for a week, and will also show at Planet Media at the Prestige Plaza and in Kisumu, as well as the Nyali Cinemax in Nairobi.
