UP Foodies: Nairobi Pizza Festival Launches in Style

It was a calorie-crazy affair at the press launch of the Nairobi Pizza Festival at the Zen Garden on Wednesday, and we are still struggling with our waistlines!

We had been making pizza since 3pm, at an average of 5 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius under the watchful eyes of the Zen Garden’s chefs, and our dough-addled brains were screaming. After chefs Fred Otiso (Kenya) and Donny Sigy (The Philippines) approved our toppings - we were able to power through.

Setting aside our stationery and equipment, the media practitioners present turned into pizzaiolos (pizzamakers) for a few minutes, and washed down their hand made pizzas with a chilled Carlsberg beer. Zen Garden’s deliciously topped pizzas had us stuffed, but shockingly, we would still try to nibble at each other’s creations.

Nairobi is at the pizza epicenter (epizzentre?) as it could be easily described as the most pizza-obsessed city in Africa and finally their insatiable cravings can be catered to by the crazy offers of the Pizza Festival.

“Well, 2 for 1 deals on pizza and beer from Monday 5th October to Friday 9th October!”, the bubbly Dee Sangale from EatOut notes. Carlsberg may be the official beer of the Barclays Premier League, but what is football and beer without pizza? Boring.

Truth be told, it might be one of the most calorific combinations in the world, but once in awhile, why not spoil yourself and indulge?

Once you download your pizza passport from the festival site and present it at any participating outlet, you will be eligible for a 2 for 1 pizza offer and Carlsberg beer at no added cost.

For one week, Nairobi pizza lovers will observe National Pizza Month and be treated to double the cheesy delights, because as the Director of EatOut likes to say, ‘Everyone loves pizza, but what’s better than 2 in 1?’
