UP Music: First Listen of Phy’s Debut Album, Phylosophy
When UP Magazine hooked up with Phy earlier in the year,the earth-shattering buzz around her had just started. Little did we know that the winner of the Maisha Superstar music competition was rocking a catalogue of recordings, large enough to make up an album. Last night, she presented the album to us for an exclusive first listen.
Phylosophy is her debut album. With an exploding fan base that is growing in leaps and bounds, and a mentorship backing from some of the industry’s heavyweights, Phy might soon be on every deejay playlist and promoter’s shortlist.
The listening party for her debut album, Phylosophy was held at Ennovator Music Studios on Thursday, 3rd December 2015 from 6pm and it featured special guest such as musical power couple Nameless and Wahu, Saint P Mbaru, Calvo Mistari among others.
“The listening party was an intimate opportunity to share the stories of my songs with everyone who has been there from the beginning of this journey. It was also a chance to hear from me and my team who without whom, none of this would have been possible. ” – Phy.
“Working on the album has been my greatest blessing yet. The dream comes true for a girl born in tiny village in Sotik, which proves anything is possible if put your mind to it. I have given my raw authentic self to this and I believe my world will collide with that of the listener creating a magical experience,”
Expressing her gratitude to God, she was not forgetful of her pastors who braved the chilly weather to support her.
“For me as a producer, what stood out was how humble she was while I worked with her,” noted the jovial Saint P, “she cast her away her winning streak at Maisha Superstar and just put her all into this album.”
This sentiment was echoed by producer Tim Ennovator Rimbui, aka #TimWork, “Phy is hardworking. And that is such a key element that stands out in her.”
Endemol’s David Mbatia expressed optimism that the album would do well and that Endemol was proud of Phy.
Ruka ft. King Kaka & Khaligraph
Noting about the album, Buddha Blaze termed it as a ‘fresh listen’.
“This is kind of music that I wait to hear every day. Pure urban, very calculated, pure talent. Phy is a Kenyan urban phenomenon, Khali is a King of punch lines, and Rabbit is a storyteller. This is my jam for now. The clubs are about to go crazy,” he said.

Taabu [ Taboo]
Phy takes you back to the nostalgic days of playing kiddish games while we grew up in Nairobi.
Paradise
‘Paradise’ is for those who are sick and tired of a stressful situation and want out. It was produced by Saint P it is a rather a slow ballad, yet catchy and a great listen.
Bad Man
This is a reggae tune which will definitely give Rihanna’s ‘Man Down’ a run for its money.
Shugli
Kato Change who is featured on this track flirts with virtuosity as he does best but Phy brings the vocals to this amazing ballad.

Phylosophy is philosophically a musical escape for Phy!
