UP Music: New Video Alert, Femi One’s Brikicho
Here is a peculiar Kenyan hip hop femcee story. Femi One began rapping when she was 15 years old. She used to perform at WAPI (Words and Pictures) through the mentorship of Zakah (Wenyeji). It was at one of these events where King Kaka spotted her and asked her to feature on Ligi Soo remix and in the process signed her to Kaka Empire. She is best known for her trademark line, “Me ndio Femi One among the Feminine.”
Her presence on the entertainment scene locally has been little to none but all that is about to change now.
“Brikicho for me is a song that shows I have come out from hiding and showing people how much I have grown musically,” says Femi One.
Brikicho is a catchy club song with an urban feeling that gets people moving. The song features Femi One’s trademark witty punchlines laced on a trap beat.
The title of the song, Brikicho is derived from the games we used to play as kids where one person hides and the other would have a task of looking for them.
Upon its release on YouTube, the comments started streaming in fast. It was a mixed take from the viewers.

The song was produced by Jack on the Beat of Angels Production and the video was directed by Johnson Kyalo. Kyalo goes for a similar video concept as Wiz Khalifa’s We Dem Boyz video concept. The video is shot in the ‘hood and Femi One strolls around the hood rapping, introducing other concepts along. The main collective maintains centre stage but with each passing line, a new concept or person is introduced who falls in place with what she is rapping on. King Kaka makes a cameo appearance.
Sadly towards the end, the dancers seem not to have rehearsed their steps well and watching the clip you can see the left dancer waiting on the one on the right to make his move.
