UP Music- New Video Alert: Zikki and Jaguar ‘Take It Slow’

They possess sweet voices, songwriting skills that show a depth of realness and experience in their musical journey, and a presence that commands both on and off stage.

Zikki is the band’s name and ‘Take It Slow’ sees them team up with Huu Mwaka hit maker, Jaguar.

Rising from the vibrant streets of Kariobangi, the band is made up of four youthful and gifted musicians, Bianju Morris – lead vocalist, Evans Macharia – bass guitarist, Moses Otieno -lead guitarist and Kelvin Kamande as drummer.

The band calls its music style “ZIKKIZA” which simply translates to; listen and dance. Take It Slow is a perfect demonstration of this genre - the song has a twist that makes you want to listen but also get up and dance.

Sadly the director does not do much in terms of exploring the song’s message and theme - but being their first video, it is a great starting point in our books. Steve Kahugu, an avid fan of the band notes in a YouTube comment, “Nice video but the video should have brought a vivid picture of the difference and how love will conquer that.”

Mburu Thuo also adds, “There is no is doubt this song is on point, one of the best songs this year. However in my opinion they could have come up with a better video. The lyrics and melody of this song were too deep but the video lacks creativity and flow. It was mainly focused on the ‘yellow yellow’ chic. This made the song lose its meaning.”

Take It Slow is centered on the hope of a poor boy from Eastlands who falls for a rich girl, a love that strengthens despite facing challenges such as language barriers, poverty and other difficult circumstances. The video is set on a basketball court and revolves around an ongoing game, side plays with the cheerleaders and a boy head over heels in love.

 

The video sees cameo appearances by comedian turned politician, Mongolo, and entertainers, Rachel Marete and DJ Crème de la Crème.
