UP Music: Phy Debuts New Video ‘Ruka’ Featuring King Kaka & Khaligraph Jones
After dropping her album, now comes the hard work, creating visuals that will complement the tracks. Ruka is the title track for her new album Phylosophy which is set for release later in the week.
“I can’t be the only one that locks myself in my room then jumps frantically on my bed to blaring music. If you’re the type to do so, I made us a theme song,” says Phy, who won the first season of Maisha Superstar TV series which had contestants drawn from three countries. She was also a runners-up for Airtel Music Star and is one of the 6 Kenyan acts featured in the Airtel Jam Sessions, a showcase of buzz worthy artistes to watch.
Reuniting two members of Nairobi’s elite hip hop class, the track features Khaligraph Jones and King Kaka. The simple studio set video highlights a song for the free and fun loving individual that doesn’t necessarily need to be in a club to have fun but pretty much anywhere. It’s that feel good song that lifts your spirits and by all means everyone is guaranteed to shout themselves hoarse every time the chorus comes on.
The video has been getting mixed reactions online after it was posted on YouTube. Pundits have speculated on Phy’s staying power in the mainstream arena, however we believe that under the able mentorship of King Kaka, Phy will soon find her footing.
Khaligraph Jones noted,
Good one Phy… Really proud of you. We be winning with this one.”
As a counter, Ghafla Kenya’s CEO, Mr. Majani wrote,
Hmm… Not convinced, but I’ve subscribed, because I know under Rabbit’s mentorship there will be more to come. Jaribu ingine. I hope my “wrong” opinion is not taken badly.
Ruka was produced by Timwork and the video was directed by Moses Osidiana of Brainworks. It features a special cameo appearance by rising songstress, Swiga.
