UP Video of The Week: Jamaican Songstress Alaine Does a Reggae Cover of Adele’s ‘Hello

Adele’s ‘Hello’ is a striking and lovelorn track that would make you go back to your past relationship and reconcile your past. Jamaican songstress, Alaine Laughton has done a reggae cover of the same hit track.

The songwriter who possesses songwriting skills that reflect a number of experiences and a smile that could brighten any day, has nailed the track perfectly. Follow her @Alainesinga on Twitter

Produced by the legendary Shane Brown and the saxophone god, Dean Fraser, the baseline is deep rootsy reggae. Alaine’s angelic voice stands out completely. Directed by Jamaican celebrated talent Dameon Gayle, the video revolves around the Tuff Gong Studios lab, where Alaine is joined by a live music band.

The drums kick in and the guitars follow shortly after, all this topped with the bass and the keyboard makes for the perfect romantic reggae ballad.

Alaine’s vocals have the ability to connect with music lovers. In May this year, she released her much-anticipated album, Ten of Hearts, where 10 represents completion and hearts represent the various forms of love she sings about.

Speaking to Jamaica’s online entertainment site Yard Hype, Alaine noted, “I am really grateful for the contributions made by all the talented people who worked with me on this album. I’m really passionate about my music and they helped me get to a final product that I am in love with.”

Perhaps a surprise feature on the album is Alaine’s and Kenyan comedian Churchill ‘Wafula’ hit track —a track they jammed to without prior recording or even writing while on stage during her visit in Nairobi at the Churchill Show in Carnivore.

It is an album full of love twists and turns—a mirror image of her cover of Adele’s Hello.
