Viral Wednesdays: Willy Paul’s A-List Collabo with Size 8, Kambua and Gloria Muliro

Since his ascension to top tier gospel music status, Willy Paul’s career has been inundated with personal issues, run ins with the law and a series of rumors that pop up each and every other day. His sagas are always fodder for entertainment bloggers and always cause Twitter frenzy comparable only to the time Solange was in that elevator.

“Willy Paul reminds me of Rihanna. Many controversies, then he comes out with a great song to overshadow all the stories,” one Mr. Majani comments. One Abdulsamad Alawi does not share his sentiments, piping in “Mr. Majani, Chris Brown would have been a fair comparison, Rihanna is a lady…”

But despite all these career-killing distractions, Willy Paul Msafi manages to keep his career afloat.

This week, he released the much awaited music video for “Sijafika”- featuring Gospel’s bespoke queens, Size 8, Kambua and Gloria Muliro.

Sijafika, Swahili for ‘I’m not yet there’, tells the story of a person who is on a voyage in search of Jesus Christ whilst battling their imperfections - explaining to the society that despite not yet getting to that crucial stage of their journey, he or she is still after the Lord. For Willy Paul, it looks like a clear answer to his pundits who have over the years labelled him as a proud, arrogant and hard-headed lad.

The song’s audio was done by the very talented Teddy B whilst the video was directed by Young Wallace - who opted to take his cinematography to the prestigious Villa Rosa Kempinski.

Many entertainment writers are already speculating on a ton of nominations for this track at the annual Groove Awards - the biggest night for Gospel music in Kenya. Song of The Year, Best Collabo maybe?
