Viral Wednesday: Amani’s Kizungu Zungu

Amani is one of those dynamic artists who are incredibly easily to warm to. With Ogopa deejays, she was a Boomba music Queen but now moving to work with Grandpa Record’s powerhouse and 360 Music, we can witness the rise of a new Kenyan Pop Queen in the making.

‘Kizungu zungu’; her latest new video release is a testimony of her vocal prowess and a push from her comfort zone to do more of what Grandpa Records is pushing; the pop genre. Kizungu zungu, Swahili for dizziness but in this sense a girl in a love bubble. Dizziness combines great picture clarity, audio and visual aspects.

The video is well edited and mastered too. Shot at the WestHouse Hotel in Nairobi, the director ‘Sync’ does a commendable job opting to use less effect transitions. The use of the long shots for details, cutting to medium short for clarity and close up shots for emphasis is a great add to this video.

One feels the director would have pushed for more chemistry in this over 3 minute video clip. It is also commendable to see Amani take role in the clip as most of the times she lets other people play the roles of her music character.

The lighting is great. The combination of well-lit areas vis a vis the dark background also adds jest to this great production. The camera angles flexibility in terms of low angles to high angles is a plus.

Sadly, one feels the director takes more time on some shots and that some shots were not relevant like the underwater swimming. The director should have tightened the shots on the chemistry to push the video theme even more.

All in all, am sure we would not mind seeing Amani’s curves underwater. Eye catching to us was the great job the make-up artist did and the costume designer. The vibrant maxi dress and the different color shade balloons combination worked perfectly.
