Viral Wednesday: Fuata Sheria by Sarabi Band feat Juliani

Socially conscious music has a way of pricking the souls of Kenyans. It goes to show that music as a tool has a way of being a mirror, which is both brutally honest and unforgiving.

With 50 years of independence, Fuata Sheria (which means ‘follow the law‘ in Swahili) is still that one song that makes us as a country look back and say we may celebrate our U but there is still more that ails us. Waxing lyrical through Swahili and sheng, rapper Juliani and the Sarabi Band from Eastlands take us through a critical look of our place and power as citizens when we decide to take responsibilities.

This song does not just take a look at our leaders but calls on all Kenyans to take a stand on corruption status quo.

Written, after being inspired by activist Boniface Mwangi, the song was written after Boniface shared a list of the scandals Kenya’s politics from the last 50 years with George Nderitu, the Sarabi Band Manager.
