Blogger Share: #Wifiandflashlights: Jay Take a Pic on Life
Jay Take a Pic covers everything from cool recipes, nice restaurants he’s visited, what he likes to wear and the places he likes to go. It would be easy to spot him flitting about at the event ‘du jour’, doing his thing and taking pictures of everything to boot.
He’s our blogger share this week, and in this post that we’re sharing she talks about a trip he took to Storms Joy in Nanyuki. This camping tale is told almost as if he was talking to a co-conspirator. Here goes:
#Wifiandflashlights
My loves! How is everyone doing? Stop now and drop me a comment in the section below, I really want to know how you guys are doing. I have a post coming up that will kind of give you an understanding of why I am asking this.
Ok I recently went on vacation with my honey Joy and we took over Storms Resort in Nanyuki. If you follow me on social media you know I have been craving a road trip badly so when the guys over at Storms Resort invited me over for a weekend getaway, my bags were packed and I was ready to go!
I’ve been to Nanyuki before, such a lovely town. Friendly people, you won’t miss much from Nairobi. I even saw one of my favorite restaurants from Nairobi there. I could actually very easily see myself moving there. It really is a city away from the city only they have clean air and everything is so accessible in the town.
The drive to the hotel was a bit long but so scenic. Lots to see on your way there, if you aren’t into long drives just make an amazing mix tape for the ride down to help you forget about the distance. Having a road trip buddy like Joy of Ourstylekenya.com getting lost wasn’t so horrible. The moment we saw “welcome to Meru County” we figured we weren’t in Kansas no more! One thing I can say about getting there that would make the experience better is if they had more sign boards to give you better direction to where the actual hotel is.
After over 300 kilometers and passing 2 rivers we finally got there. The warm staff and the cool glass of mango juice washed away all the anxiety of getting lost and the crazy driving that we had to experience. Such lovely and warm people, after exchanging pleasantries we started our hotel tour.
They have the glamping tents which are where we stayed. They have a very rustic feel to them, such soft sheets with a very high thread count. Locally sourced beds but are so beautifully made. You somehow forget you are in a tent. It gets a bit chilly at night but the staff is always there to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Next up were the cottages, you can have single or double rooms. I love it when hotels have white on white comforters. It just goes to show you how clean it really is. There is very little to hide when you choose white to represent your hygiene levels. The cottages have this homely feeling. I would highly suggest these for a couple with a baby of which they do provide baby cots.
If you are looking for a hardcore camping situation they also have a large field with some manicured grass. I can so see a festival happening there, can we have a Pushing Daisies situation going on over there? That would be so epic!
Joy and I were famished after our journey there and we finally got to see the sunset and it was absolutely gorgeous! We decided to have dinner at the Storms bar where we had a couple of cocktails and such delicious meals. If you get a chance to drive down let David fix you something. He really knows how to judge your pallet and give you something amazing. We didn’t have too much because we knew that day two was going to be full of activities that the hotel offered.
We woke up to a beautiful sunrise. My room was facing Mount Kenya and Joys was facing the sunrise. The air at 6 am is so fresh and the views are so breathtaking. I really don’t think that my images even captured what we saw. We got on the move because we had a hike and quad biking planned for the day.
I haven’t been very on the mark with my fitness so I knew this would be a bit of a challenge. Be sure to carry a good pair of trainers with some good grip because the rocks on the top of the hill get a bit slippery
We were lucky enough to have our ranger Kanu who helped us through it. He told us that during the mating season you get to see Leopards and dik diks . Elephants frequent the land as well so if you do get to see them please tag me in a picture I love those majestic beasts.
After the hike and some chill time we got onto some quad bikes. For a first timer I think I did well for myself I didn’t drive into any bush which is super exciting. They have the halftrack and the full track which is so intense and such rough terrain. Lots of up and downs.
Just like that day 3. Can you believe it, we decided to sleep in, I couldn’t imagine leaving my tent to go wake joy up and I soon found out she felt the same lol. They set up a beautiful breakfast overlooking the hills from the dining area.
We were joined by the marketing manager who gave us a bit of history about the place where she soon came to tell us the truth about her lie that if we were patient enough we would see some lions. lol We were so gullible. After breakfast we lazed around taking our last pictures saying bye to all the amazing people who hosted us during the weekend.
Check out my girl Joy Kendis post over on Justjoykendi.com and see her take on our fabulous little get away.
