Live Performance: Gargar
The all female Kenyan Quartet, Gargar is the first Kenyan group to participate at the 10th Babel Med World Music Festival in Marseille and its prestige is clear with nominations for both the “Orange” Award at the Babel Med Festival in Marseille and the “World Music Award” at the Couleurs du Monde Festival in Brittany. Gargar means joining together in Somali and this quartet from Garissa is true to their name; as part of larger Somali women’s self-help and economic empowerment group they introduce their beautiful arrangements of traditional Somali music meshed seamlessly modern rhythms. Please vote for the all-female Kenya Quartet to win the Orange Award worth 5000 euros at the following link: http://www.fondationorange.com/vote_babel_med_music_2014/
