Dance is one of the most vibrant parts of Nairobi nightlife. Here, we love to dance. That is the true life of a party or a club and the ultimate definition of nightlife. Dance goes hand in hand with music and, the fact that most of our pop culture music fixations are dance-able and club-able party tracks just proves that dancing is truly in our blood.
With Nigerian sensation Davido coming to Kenya next weekend and later on yet another musician ,Yemi Alade, is set to headline a major concert down at the coast in April, it is only fair that we give you some dance instructions to practice during the run up to these parties.

This dance from MC Galaxy has always been a club favorite especially here in Nairobi. If Governor Goodswill Akpabio adopted Sekem Dance after he was convinced to learn the steps by the comedian cum singer; who are you not to?

A Nigerian comedian joked that this dance originated from a mad man who found his way into the club. Kindly be careful while watching this video at work, random outburst of laughter have been reported. This dance shows the rich creativity and humor of the Nigerian people.

The originator of this dance is the same man who will be performing here in Kenya; Davido, so be a good student and out do your teacher please. If footballers Adebayor and Eto’o, who have two left feet on the dance floor can pull it off, you can as well.

The Ghanaian dance fad has swept over Africa like a wildfire. The dance involves a set of hand movements that either mimic everyday activities or are meant to signal an often amusing intention.
It begun with one or two steps but has been advanced to more complex and almost acrobatic movements. Just like most African moves, knee bending and hip movements are major elements. The dance has effectively evolved from a few rudimentary moves to embrace depictions of ironing, washing, driving, boxing, grooming, praying, swimming, and others.

The story behind this dance comes again from the Nigerian musician cum artist, Mc Galaxy. He won Iyanya’s dance competition and he is the heavy man who pulls off the sick moves in the clip. Iyanya came with the ‘Kukere’ hit, and Africa was dancing to this move left, right and centre literally.

Olamide’s hit ‘Shoki’ got Wizkid falling head over heels in love with this move that has gone viral. Most people still debate on whether it was one of the best dance moves of 2014. It still is a favorite in Nairobi clubs today.

Koffi Olamide or Awilo Longomba’s hit is a must have for a perfect party experience in Nairobi. Soukous or Makossa remain dance moves that have dominated the continent since back in the era of afros and bell bottoms.

Cabo Snoop stole our hearts with this. It is one of those dance styles that plagued Africa and to date ‘Windeck’ playing in many clubs in Africa, even with most of us not understanding the words.

Diamond Platinumz ‘Ngololo’ was big last year! Even Davido agreed and on several attempts we have seen him pull off the dance successfully.

UP Tip: while at any of the two concerts look around you as you dance, if anyone is watching, stop. Then start really cool and gentle as you bust these moves, and at the right moment (youll know when it is) switch it up and go crazy both with your moves and facial expressions.
