Nimefika: E-Sir’s Memory Lives on
This past week, on March 16th, 12 years after his passing on, the music industry fraternity paid tribute to the legendary E-Sir on their social media pages. Arguably one of Kenya’s finest ever musicians, he held the mic and created magic.
“His music and legacy still lives on in our hearts,” a post in part reads on Sauti Sol’s Facebook page. His iconic style still lives on and he was perhaps responsible for making the Ogopa brand one of the most popular in the early 2000s.
Born in May 20th 1981 in California Estate, he was raised in the South-C where his deft lyrical ability and command of the Swahili flow was unmatched ever since his hey days with The Buccaneers group. With only one album to his name, ‘Nimefika’ ,a must have for anyone who understands the vibrancy of Kenyan music, E-Sir had some amazing collaborations with many people. We take a look at some of those collabos.
Boomba Train
This was a club anthem back then and still is. A major collabo with Nameless, this song continues to stand the test of time.
Bamba
This tune featured members of this group who were basically from South-C, The Buccaneers. The song had the late K-Rupt and Big pin.
Moss Moss
Who can forget the lovely Brenda’s vocals on this tune?
Hamunitishi
This is deemed as one of E-Sir’s best reply to those hating on him then. It featured the radio queen and night nurse of Reggae, Talia Oyando.
Nimefika
Another song that still is a club banger, the tune had Big Pin on it as The Buccaneers continued with their streak of releasing hit after hit.
Maisha
An open sad letter of a sort, this was the only posthumous song released after he passed on, and which featured the legendary Nameless.
Definitely, E-Sir’s mark stands to date and even though we miss him, his album redefines the music scene locally to date, with his immense contribution evident. We came across a great tribute mix tape done by Homeboyz Radio’s DJ John Rabar.
