Photographer of the Week: Wawira Njeru

Every week we find a photographer that we think you should know about, magic makers behind the lens. This week we present Dagitari Wawira. Find her on Instagram HERE.

How long have you been into photography?

I’ve been into photography most of life since I was eight I think. My dad was a keen enthusiast and that’s the first time he gave me a camera,a point and shoot to craft the passion. With regard to when I started doing it professionally, I’d say sometime last year .

What camera do you use?

My current beast is a Canon 7D

Did you receive formal training or are you self taught?

I’d largely say I’m self taught. School basically intensified my interest but learning the technical and creative craft has been a self improvised journey.

What is your favourite kind of photography?

Wow, tough. First of all I’m head over heels stuck in the pre-digital pre-color world of black and white medium format kind of photography. I kinda fancy any kind of photography that manages to poke into one’s comfort zones regarding their biases. So I guess documentary ? Boudoir? Fine art ? Still life ? Yes.

Tell us something about yourself, what inspires you?

The fact that I won’t wake up someday inspires me. Hence, being able to do what I love or at least 60-70% of it before I die inspires me.
