Whatever happened to the Kenyan Kings of Comedy?
The ‘Kings of Kenyan comedy’ has a nice ring to it; that’s what we would call the original cast of Redykyulass. Every week they brought us the most hilarious episodes where for forty minutes, viewers would forget about their lost job or the rent that’s due and just laugh at the misfortunes of those that run our beloved Kenya.
Redykyulass allowed us mere mortals to chuckle about venerated politicians and not even feel bad about it. They publicised some of the most controversial and flat out jaw-dropping issues that we faced in Kenya and made them funny.
It’s no secret that some Kenyan politics is already hilarity on it’s own (Seriously, we’ve all laughed at what Mike Sonko was doing here), Redykyulass only added a certain flare to this humour AND they were also seriously talented. If that’s not a showcase of Kenyan talent then we don’t know what is (alright fine, we know Lupita’s a prime example but she’s not the focus today).
But of course, all good things must come to an end. The demise of Redykyulass was seriously one of the saddest things to happen…okay it wasn’t but it was quite a melancholy time. Red corner came after but you can’t equate red corner to the magnificence that was Redykyulass.
We all eventually have to grow up and move on to greater, maybe more serious pastures they say. Well, the original cast of Redykyulass Walter Mong’are, Tony Njuguna and John Kiare (KJ), took the road less travelled and decided to leave the humour behind. So what happened to them?
Walter Mong’are, as in the guy who used to be known as Nyambane went into politics and even had a parliamentary seat in Kisii, his hometown. Check out what he brought us before he traded his comedic hat for his political suit.

KJ also stepped into the political light however after losing the Dagoretti parliamentary seat, he went on to becoming a prominent youth leader. Glad to know he used his fame to empower the youth! He also went on to create Transcend media, an advertising company. Before you congratulate him, look at what he brought us before.

Tony, the most vivid memory of him is when he used to imitate Kibaki with such fastidiousness he should have won an Oscar for it. He went on to become, well we don’t really know what he’s doing these days. He’s actually sort of incognito.
