Somali Restaurants In Nairobi

Have you ever had Injera? Yes? Then you have had Somali food. Most Somali meals are eaten by hand. Their cuisine mostly features camel and goat meat and ghee although if you are lucky, you might be offered a cup of their well renowned “chai ya ngamia” (camel milk tea). Here’s where you can experience the spicy journey into Somali food.

1. Hamdi Restaurant

We have a weird fixation for balconies and this is why Hamdi tops our list. That doesn’t mean that is the only good thing about it. They have a very friendly staff who are always happy to help and there is the food! Their Arosto has to be one of the best in all Nairobi! They are strategically placed opposite the Imax.

2. Al Yusra Restaurant

Located on the Banda Street near Jamia Mall, Al Yusra is as it’s name translates to, a place of ease. Their mouth watering menu includes spicy boiled or fried goat and camel, biryani and Saldato. You have got to try their camel! They serve huge delicious chunks you can’t finish in one sitting but you will surely appreciate it later.

3. Cafe Pronto

Aptly located at the heart of the CBD, Cafe Pronto, despite it’s italian-is name serves some mean Somali food! Their Arosto is definitely worth trying out.

4. Rayan’s Restaurant

Just off Koinange Street is this polite restaurant. It is semi-packed most of the time and has a warm feel to it. They have a variety of sitting options from a private room, outdoor sitting and the regular dinning areas. Their meals are just amazing. If you have the chance, just order everything off the list and try them all out! Their camel with pilau is one for the gods. Just don’t attack it too fast, you will be stuffed before it’s even halfway done.

5. Orient Cuisine
