Top 5 Grafitti Artists in Nairobi
Have walked around Nairobi, spotted amazing graffiti art and thought to yourself, ‘Who drew that?’. We too have been there and thus figured it’s only fair that we compile a list of graffiti artists in Nairobi. Here goes;
1. Bankslave:
Should you ever find yourself on Kenyatta Avenue, just before you get to the Integrity Centre, there is a very interesting graffiti titled ‘Wailing souls’. It is beautiful and thought provoking at the same time.The Wailing Souls project was done in memory of the Westgate terror attack victims. But that is not all he has done; he has represented Kenya in a number of International graffiti events and joined hands with artists in Senegal to commemorate the Garissa attacks victims by painting in Dakar.
Bankslave is one of the biggest taggers, he loves to dance to kwaito music.
2. Swift9:
Swift made it onto our list because of how vivid his work is. It grabs your attention and keeps it. It demands for concentration and justifies that demand.
Swift is based at Pawa 254. He has worked on some of the best portraits we have ever seen.
3. Sermone28:
Sermone is actively involved on the Grafitti scene having founded Wild Letter Kings crew. He is affiliated with two other crews; KWS and AW. The two are based in Los Angeles and New York, respectively.
His work is characterized by wildly beautiful letters, as suggested by the title of his graffiti crew and it is the execution of this concept that has seen him make it onto our list.
4. Bgal
Bgal is one of the few female graffiti artists around. We love especially, not because she is female but because her gender hasn’t been the point that she used to pass her talent but because she matches up pretty well with the boys.
Bgal was at one point Swift9’s protégé.
5. Kerosh
Kerosh is very good with portraits. if you are a follower of Kerosh’s work, you might have seen his portrait of a one of the RECEE officers that died in the rescue operations. Just in in case you missed it…
