Life According to Juiced Today: The Transporter Refueled Review

Yesterday evening, Nairobi came alive once again to the prostitution kingdom of the French Riviera. Once again, Yuri, the Russian human trafficker who forced Anna into prostitution 15 years ago is back.

Taking up the role of Jason Statham humbly, yet with charisma and big feet to fit right into Statham’s shoes, Briton Ed Skrein (from Game of Thrones) plays Frank Martin- the ‘transporter’ and tough guy on a mission to move dangerous cargo, no questions asked.

He abides by 4 simple rules: do not be late, no names, no questions and no re-negotiations.

“We have found the right match with Ed Skrein, who is not only a great actor, but also has enough charisma and physical stamina to play Frank Martin with brio,” noted EuropaCorp CEO Christopher Lambert.

Frank is ‘transporter’, a high-price courier who will take anything anywhere, for a load of cash.

Femme fatale Anna (Loan Chabanol) tricks Frank into driving the getaway car for an ingenious blondes in black bank robbery- reincarnating the ‘Three Musketeers’ tale.

Racing through the streets of Monaco in a state-of-the-art Audi, Frank unwittingly gets entangled in a scheme to bring down the rogue Yuri- a foyer acquaintance from the army.

“It is a reboot yes, but who does not love fast cars? I am nonetheless excited to see it,” Jotham Micah the Marketing Manager at film distribution company, Crimson Multimedia Limited told Juiced Today.

His assistant, Kennedy Keriko too expressed equal sentiments and excitement prior to the screening,” I know Statham is missing but I have a feeling many film lovers in Kenya will enjoy this.”

With such a high bar set, Ed Skrein delivers wit and a memorable action packed sequence from brutal street-fighting brawls to fighting in front of his moving Audi. The audience inside the cinema hall get a kick every time.

“The first ten minutes of the movie is really exciting as you watch Frank and his father bond,” notes Albert Makoeng, the Promo and Sponsorship manager at M-Net Movies.

Ray Stevenson (old people have sex too! A comic) adds dramatic pepper as the ransomed father (who hates being late and always nags his son about getting a woman in the house or if he has a plan every time they are in a fix) whose safety drives his son, frank, to great car, bikes, cop cars an even an air plane chase.

Anna’s witty advances on Frank (you will see the a lot) sees her fall head-over-heels in love with the ‘transporter’. Her gang of bum-wiggling sex workers also bring a thrill to this car enthusiast, Camille Delamere filmed masterpiece.

“We are excited about the response,” adds Albert Makoeng of M-Net Movies, “and these advanced screenings partnerships with IMAX Kenya our host, the distributors at Crimson Multimedia and Chevrolet are our way of saying a big thank you to our M-Net Movies subscribers. Because as we say, ‘we are a little obsessed’ about content.”

Not a bad premise, Ed Skrein totally blew our expectations of him- some lines got howls of incredulous laughter and so did some fight scenes especially where he hits Yuri with a stone. Someone shouted ‘Gor mahia’ and the hall was full of laughter. Perhaps the most memorable one was how he hit the water points in the city during g the cop cars chases or even how he drove inside the airport boarding gate bridge.
