Official DJ profile for Rift Valley Festival: Moritz Kasper a.k.a Momo.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know it’s finally Rift Valley Festival week. In honor of that, we’re going to be giving you interviews with the musical acts lined up and for our first interview we chose the man who brings the bass, Momo.
Hey Momo, would you like to introduce yourself to your RVF fans?
Hey, I’m Moritz Kasper but my DJ name is Momo without the DJ part (laughs). My music taste is very experimental, I never have any set genre but it will make you move. As a person when it comes to the whole DJing scene, I’m not one who likes the limelight. I just want to play music for people to enjoy and have fun.
It’s your first time playing at RVF, right?
Yes, last year I was just a volunteer.
How did you get the opportunity? And are you excited about the upcoming weekend?
I got to know Sean Ross(the organiser of Rift Valley Festival)last year while I was volunteering at it and just simply asked and well I’m on the line-up now and am I excited? I’m pretty nervous actually (laughs) but on the upside it’s such a huge honor to be playing at one of the best festivals in East Africa.
How long have you been a DJ?
I’ve officially been a DJ for the past 4 or 5 years. But from around the age of 15 to 16 I used to dabble in it but mostly was an Emcee for a reggae sound system.
As much as you say that you don’t have a particular genre, don’t you think that being into the reggae music helps influence the kind of music you play?
Well, yes. My roots are in reggae and in dancehall so I do play songs based on that but mostly there is underlying heavy bass and bass lines. Really up tempo sort of stuff!
Now that we know what kind of sound you play , how many times do we expect to hear you play?
I’ll be playing 5 times in the three days but most importantly on the main stage on Saturday from 5pm to 6pm.
