Relief- The Fundraiser
Try and picture East Africa in the year 2034. Cant? Is it too hard to imagine this African gem that far into the future? Relief, a Mizani Pictures Production stop motion animation film, written by Loi Awat sets out to fulfil your imagination by portraying East Africa 20 years from now.
The film surrounds the life of Samora, a motorcycle deliveryman based in Nairobi whose job is to deliver a box of relief food to an unknown man every morning. The plot thickens however when the strange man doesn’t show up one morning and Samora is left with a box that can change the fate of the East African Federation forever.
The central theme of this film is Africanism, the sheer patriotism for not only the federation alone but Mother Africa as a whole. The filmmakers at Mizani want to challenge Africans to wake up. They want to set the mind of young Kenyans and young Africans at large to know that they have the potential to solve their own problems without looking for outside help. They want to break the dependency that East Africans often have on foreign relief. Mizani seeks to spread the message that Africans do have minds of their own and can harness their potential without the help of the Western world.
By 2034 Mizani Pictures Production wants to realise vision 2030 in Kenya, 2035 in Tanzania and 2040 in Uganda. To do this however, they advocate the need for these three countries to first individually rise into success and achieve their own dreams before setting out to better the federation.
Mizani Pictures production is calling on Kenyans to help raise the funds needed to create this positively influencing film. They want the film to transcend beyond cinemas in Africa to film festivals across the world. So far they have raised 10% of the $1500, which they need by the 24th of July 2014. Help Mizani Film Production reach their goal by going on to M-changa or IndieGogo and donating.
