The Dadaab Stories Documentary: The reality of the life of a refugee

The Dadaab Stories is a moving online documentary about the everyday life of the refugees in one of the world largest refugee camps in Daadab, Northern Kenya. The documentary was screened for the first time in Kenya last week in a small cocktail event for the press at the Sankara hotel. The launch was hosted by FilmAid, the passionate team behind this project who used the power of film and media to give the refugees and their communities a space and voice to tell their stories.

The documentary is divided into different topics around the camp including on arts, camp services, perspectives and profiles. Poetry and photography were a few of the tools used to translate the everyday life of the Dadaab refugees into a visual story. “ These people in the camps are not especially miserable or sad, they face the same issues as you in me in life. You can really use the power of film to shape people’s opinion. ” says John Kilungu, the Program Manager of the project.

“The Dadaab stories” is a production of FilmAid, supported by the Ford Foundation, the Tribeca Film Institute and the UNHCR. To watch the documentary:
