Top 5 Male Vocalists

Music is a lot things, a lot of components come in to make the beautiful sounds. Speaking of beautiful, it’s not just the ladies that belt out your favourite tunes. Today we give you a list of Nairobi’s best male vocalists. Did your favourite make it? Think they should have been on this list? Let us know

1. Charles Bodo

charles bodoYou probably know him as the face of Lele Ngoma. Is that the title he goes by? It doesn’t really matter because Bodo is the master of his craft. There is a way he reclines his head and then voices into a microphone that will have you believe that all of the universe’s tunes reside in his throat. He tops our list of male vocalists not just because he can sing but because he does it so naturally, you are convinced he is not up on a stage trying to impress you, he is having fun.

2. Dan Chizi Aceda

We remember him from as early as 2006 when he did ‘Sana sana’, something about dalili za mvua being mawingu… A decade later, Chizi is still with us. He is gone on to declare that his style of music is Benga, that hasn’t been the most interesting thing about Mr. Chizi in the ten years we have known him. You will not have to lay your eyes on him to know when Dan Chizi’s voice comes on, for his signature sound, he lands on our list of Top 5 Male Vocalists.

3. Mordecai

mordecaiHe is the one third of Kenya’s most witty and well received band, H_art the Band. The band’s lyrics would have been enough to get him onto this list but that is not all Mordecai boasts of. Watching him on stage, Mordecai wears passion like a coat of petroleum jelly and somehow that jelly finds its way to his vocal cords and oils them. Modecai delivers note after note after in every song that H_art the Band churns out.

4. Kagwe Mungai

kagwe mungaiIt is impossible to come up with this list and not have Kagwe’s name on it. His cover of Ice Prince’s Oleku was what introduced him to most Kenyans. Over the past couple years, Kagwe’s genius has been evident, not just iin the constant production of music but with his experimentation of sound. That, coupled up with the fact that ladies appreciate his looks, saw him make it to the list.

5. Sydney125

SydneyOnce upon a time, the Kenyan music scene was blessed by the sultry sounding Didge. The ladies loved him, with good reason. Sadly, Mr. Didge left and his kid brother has come on to take up what Didge gave up. The young kid’s name is Sydney. He can rap, but why we love him is because he can sing just as well, perhaps better than Didge ever did. Whether he is just being a cool kid and doing what cool kids do, make EPs, or whether he is serious about a career as a vocalist- we cannot be sure but we are sure he is worth watching/listening to thus his position on this list.
