The match Arsenal fans will never let you forget

Today, Arsene Wenger confirmed that he would sign a new Arsenal contract before the World Cup which does not come as a surprise since Arsenal claimed the first trophy in nine years with Saturday’s 3-2 success over Hull City in the FA Cup final.

Arnold Mutisya, a proud Gunner supporter from Nairobi currently studying in South Africa, answered a few of our questions on this world-wide trend that has millions of people talking about Arsenal.

Arnold, tell me, what you think about the F.A Cup victory, do you think it’s Arsenal’s biggest victory?

“Arsenal has had many close encounters to victory in the Champions League Final and Carling Cup before, amidst intense pressure from fans who were bad-mouthing the team. Saturday’s win cemented Arsene Wenger’s commitment to the team and silenced the doubters … Wenger has confirmed he will sign a new Arsenal contract before the World Cup with widespread reports indicating he is to commit to another three years at the Emirates Stadium until 2017.

So was the victory deserved?

“The players and Arsene Wenger all deserve this victory. We especially needed this now, during the transfer window, as it will be easier for us to sign big players. We finally have our super team mentality back and its our first trophy at the Emirates. This is huge for every who considers themselves a proud Arsenal supporter.”

Wenger, who first arrived in North London in 1996, had faced intense criticism at times during a trophy drought that stretched back to the 2005 FA Cup triumph. While he repeatedly pointed to the club’s constant participation in the Champions League during those years, he admits he has also had doubts about his work.

“I’m glad overall for the players because they deserve it, for the stakeholders and for the club in general and the fans.” Arsene Wenger told the cameras after the game.

The win ended Arsenal’s nine-year trophy drought and here in Kenya, celebrations went all round in major towns. “Gooners” rocked the Nairobi City Streets all the way From Club Lazrus to Nation Centre after the win. Hundreds of fans flocked the city in celebration and could be seen from as far as Club Tribeka. In London, approximately 250,000 Arsenal fans we’re outside the Emirates Stadium. Showing truly great support for the new FA cup champions. Arsenal join Manchester United as the only teams to have won the F.A Cup title over 11 times.

Arsenal.com currently has more daily visitors from Kenya than ManUtd.com or Chelsea.com on their websites respectively.
