Andrew Macharia, Video Director/Producer

24 year-old Andrew Macharia studied film production in Los Angeles, California. After returning to Kenya in July 2012, he’s already directed roughly 25 videos. “So far it’s been quite a challenge but the music industry is promising! It is growing tremendously and I can’t wait to see how it will be in a couple of years,” beams Macharia hoping to get more of his work recognized in the coming months.

Under his company Razorwire Production, Macharia and his crew are responsible for some of the chart-topping music videos across East Africa. Locally, he’s shot and directed videos for Sauti Sol, Jaguar, Kanja and Camp Mulla among others. From Tanzania, he’s worked with Vanessa Mdee and from Uganda: Navio and the 2013 BET Awards Nominated duo Radio and Weasel. “I enjoyed working the most with the trio from Uganda and Tanzania because travelling there offered me a new experience. Different cultures are interesting,” notes Macharia who is currently working on expanding his brand across the region towards the rest of Africa.
Macharia’s mentor is LA-based renowned American music video director Mike Ho whose shot videos like “Shots Fired”—Tank feat Chris Brown. “I met him about three years ago. He has since taught me a lot of my tricks. Macharia is currently working on a potential collaboration (with Mike Ho) that will see the two directors shoot some music videos in East Africa.
