Another Remix from Eric Wainaina

You know God loves you when you are just about to watch “Money Maker” by Blaque then Eric Wainaina’s page pops up and there is a new remix and a video.

You heard it right; Eric Wainaina has released yet another remix together with a video. The remix for the song “Sing Mercy” is the second release off his 2011 album “Love and Protest” remix project. The first remix, “Selina” done by Jaaz Odongo was way funkier and cooler compared to the original. Despite being done by the same producer “Sing Mercy” which originally has a reggae/ska feel has now taken a totally different direction. The remix has a Hip Hop/ RnB feel with some funky guitars and horns at the end. The muted Bob Marley guitar feels in the chorus of the original song have been replaced by simple Dr. Dre kind of piano chords.

Nonetheless, it’s generally a very fresh and quite funky sound. The synth bass and kick give it the groove which makes you bop your head and snap your fingers. However, the vocals are not as clear compared to the original track, which makes one wonder because it also sounds to have fewer elements compared to the original track which was recorded live.

The video shot a while back when Eric still had his shoulder length dreadlocks is very cool. Set in the vast shrub lands of Kajiado, the video has beautiful shots of landscape and space. The video is fresh, not because it’s new or anything, but because it’s been shot outside with fresh air and all :p
