City Dads And The Women Who Love Them- Review

Who are you?

What are you?

Who the hell do you think you are?

Do you know me? Do I know you?

Get the hell out of my sight!

That’s how you go when your daughter, who you helped through her first period, brings home a rambling good-for-nothing player and tells you that she is dropping out of school. Fatherhood is a minefield and last weekend, due to public demand, Wholesome Entertainment staged a hilarious musical play on the journey of city dads. Three dads narrated their experiences in a very realistic and typical way; from wrong choices made earlier in life, financial obligations, the TALK- Do you tell your boy he has a key, and it can only open one door? Or do you tell him he has a master key to explore all the doors till he finds the perfect fit? How? - to absentee fathers and their resolve to be the best fathers they could ever be and how it affects the women they love.

The Dads; Stephen Katingima, Michael Oyier and Benjamin Webi stirred the audience with their quick wit and mellow tunes. The music, written and composed by Benjamin Webi set the mood perfectly between narratives. The women, Lucy Wache - Picture perfect mother and friend also Director, Denise Ngimbuini and Charity Nyambura (I was sure she was actually preggers) also dazzled the crowd with their stunning voices. There was the very talented impressionist, who move seamlessly from Tanzanian Shopkeeper to the African American good-for-nothing boyfriend to Ugandan Doctor and son with a trail of laughter in his wake.

Surely, Seth Busolo deserves more than a pat in the back for writing this rollercoaster of a play. I hope they can stage it once more in the future- three is a charm! If you missed it, find the trailer here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=917876234908696&set=vb.144384822257845&type=2&theater
