UP Film Of The Week - Granted

Kenyan filmmakers have in the past been frustrated by there not being systems in place for actors, screenwriters, directors and those who are involved in the movie making process. They have now taken to making independent short films to showcase their skills.

 

‘Granted’, for example, is an inspirational short film about a girl who takes certain aspects of her life and the relationships in her life for granted until she get news that forever changes her life. This Kenyan short film stars Lizz Njagah and Pascal Tokodi. It was written and directed by Jennifer Gatero.

 

Elizabeth Anne Achieng’ Njagah Konstantaras, simply known as Lizz Njagah, is a Kenyan actress, film director and producer. She has appeared in numerous television series and films such as Makutano Junction, Saints, Return of Lazarus, House of Lungula, Jane & Abel, Veve, Fundi-Mentals, Pearls of Africa and Me, My Wife And Her Guru. She is quite notable for having leading roles in both television and film projects.

 

Pascal Tokodi was born in Wamba (which is in Samburu land) in 1993 and was raised in various counties in Kenya because his father’s job required him to move around. His family finally settled in Nairobi when he was 7 years old. He is a musician by preference but also ventures into acting occasionally. He has been in shows such as Groove Theory, Makutano Junction, Prey and Pray and Machachari.

 

Jennifer Gatero has been directing television shows and writing scripts since she was in high school, she formed her own production company Avant Films in 2012.

She has written numerous scripts in her life, including the script for Better Days. She has also worked on TV shows such as Changing Times and Mheshimiwa.
