Groove Theory: Musical Drama

Those young at heart, appreciate universal themes of love, peer and parent relationships, big dreams versus disappointments better stay tuned. And subscribers of Zuku can experience these delights of the Groove Theory show, a new musical drama series. Launched on November 20th, the show is aired exclusively on Zuku’s Channel 100 on Wednesdays from 8:30 p.m. Kijiji Entertainment’s Kanjii and team are behind the musical drama series which revolves around five talented students at Star Kenya University (SKU), billed as one of the finest universities in the Great Lakes region.

Synopsis

Zamm is a member of the prestigious campus choir, alongside his friend, Guy, and girlfriend, Bisquit. The choir is a marker of privilege in the campus but Zamm and Guy get kicked out by Professor Eliud Bori, the authoritarian choir master, after upstaging the choir in the middle of an annual benefit concert.

With the choir as the only form of accepted artistic expression in the University, Zamm and Guy hatch the idea of forming a band of their own with the backing of student radio DJ, Bryan. The going, as it turns out, will not be easy. And for the band, it’s not about the practice; it’s the theory.

The Cast

Groove Theory’s cast is drawn from a vast array of artistic talent: from singers, poets, actors and designers, to choreographers, dancers and scriptwriters. Among them is Kevin Maina, better known as ‘Makmende’ who starred in the viral 2010 music video release ‘Hahe’ by Just A Band. Patricia Kihoro, formerly of Tusker Project Fame, and Julisa Rowe are also some of the stars in Groove Theory. Also expect to catch up with entertainment acts such as Jaguar, Atemi , Jaguar, P-Unit and Kanjii among others. Zuku is an East African cable and satellite TV company, which also recently launched Zuku Kids Channel, the first in Africa dedicated to young audiences.
