“Another one for the Ladies” Sauti Sol Concert
For the first time, in the history of Sauti Sol’s live performances, the all-man band staged an invite-only concert strictly for the ladies. On Thursday, October 31st, Sauti Sol showed their support for women and breast cancer, at Safaricom’s Michael Joseph Centre. Radio personality, Adelle Onyango, served as the event’s emcee.
The band looked classy in their all black ensembles, and serenaded the audience which included breast cancer survivors. Songs from their entire discography; from Mwanzo to the upcoming album, set for release February 2014, were met with rapturous applause. The band’s new acoustic song, “Isabella”, most notably received positive feedback. However, the band confessed that the song will probably be recorded in two versions for the upcoming album as they couldn’t agree on which sounded better.
The crowd’s reception to was unmistakably positive and a mix of that Lazizi-magic and Coming Home sincerity flowed consistently through each song they performed. The audience listened tentatively to the band’s anecdotes about the songs they had created and their friendships, they made the evening a truly special one for the ladies.
Sauti Sol has two nominations for the 2013 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards. Last year, they won Most Gifted Video east with the song “Shukuru” feat AY from Tanzania. This year “Money Lover”, their single off the upcoming third album, has been nominated for Most Gifted Afro Pop Vid and Most Gifted Vide East.
