Sebastian Wanzalla (Nude & Versatile Photography)

30-year-old photographer Sebastian Wanzalla has been operating in the world of photography for four years now. “I shoot practically everything; from portraits, landscapes, still life, concerts, wildlife to nudes. I deploy my vast knowledge of how I understand light and the experience with my choice of equipment to produce what everyone else would call a picture,” he explains. Wanzalla is also an art director.

A look at his website is literally a walk in an artistic zone; as images of nude women as well as of couples and Nairobi nights out, are part of his vast collection. “I approach nude photography more like a painting, I have a canvas and the end product has to be meaningful abstract art and not porn. How you comprehend it is based on how you see it,” he expounds on the sensitive subject of nude photography. “Every other day, I spare some time and strategize on new themes and projects.”

That’s true. His versatility was clearly displayed during the Westgate Attack; part of the images making rounds on the social media, which displayed togetherness like Kenyan flags and camaraderie among civilians, came from him. “As an artist, I communicate well visually and through images I had shot before I created posters with messages full of hope and unity and shared them with the world,” he concludes.
