Strength of A Woman: International Women’s Movie Day Premiere

PickPoint Production Studios’ award winning fiction-drama titled Strength of a Woman is set to officially premiere in Kenya on 5th March, 2015 at the Prestige Plaza Planet Cinemas and will continue screening during the International Women’s Day weekend.

Praised as “an excellent film… about basic human dignity”, Manasseh M. Chege and Wanjiru Gathu’s heartrending movie follows the remarkable and challenging story of Julia (played by Rose K. Njoroge) a 16 year old emotionally traumatized girl being raised by a financially struggling mother and an abusive father.

The film will be the centerpiece of the International Women’s Day celebrations as the world celebrates the numerous gains and progress made to combat violence against women and advocate for women’s empowerment and education.

Strength of a Woman explicitly celebrates acts of courage and determination by one ordinary woman who plays an extraordinary role in her family and community and it is envisaged that the film will inspire many more women in Kenya to stand up and be agents of change.

Compelling, humorous and deeply human; Strength of a Woman is a story about the power of determination, hope and the courage it takes to find your voice. Julia’s determination to gain an education and have a better life becomes her driving force to change her life forever despite growing up in an environment of poverty that includes her father’s gambling, alcoholism and abuse.

The film, which won five awards at the 2014 Kalasha Awards for Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Lighting and Best Original Score, stars renowned Kenyan actors Rose K. Njoroge, Laura Leila Wingate, Ashford Kirimi and Sandra Dhacha.

Supporting this ground breaking movie are sponsors and partners: Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW), Nick Creations, Film Kenya Magazine, Ungwana Initiative, and the Kenya Film Commission.
